Posted On May 28, 2021
The project’s aim is to bring together people from different parts of the world, including India, to study urban etiquette and its use in India.
It’s part of the ‘Urban Dictionary of India’ project to provide a global reference for people from across the globe, said Dr Rajesh Kulkarni, the project’s founder.
The dictionary is an online portal where people can search for words that have a special meaning in different parts.
It has a global vocabulary of 8,000 entries and contains terms such as: “dressing well”, “crowds”, “bodily functions”, “fun”, “beauty”, “fashion”, “home”, “personal style”, “emotion”, “body language”, “relationship”, “friendliness”, “dress code”, “lifestyle”, “urban etiquette” and “urban style”.
Kulkarnidhi said the project has attracted about 40 people from the US, India, Australia, Brazil, Germany, China, Hong Kong, India and Malaysia.
The project aims to create a database of Indian-related words that will be available to the public through Google and other platforms.
The aim is also to help educate people on how to conduct themselves, he added.
The project is also looking for volunteers to help with translation.
