When New York City’s Urban Space Projects Come to Life
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and his city officials have been working to turn the waterfront into a showcase for the city’s newest urban projects.
The city is in the midst of a massive $10 billion effort to turn a section of the Long Island Sound into a “green zone” where the natural resources that sustain New York’s coastal communities can be exploited.
The plan includes constructing more than 30,000 new residential units, a new shopping mall, a bike path, a park, a concert hall, a subway station, and a public transit system.
The plan was announced on June 14th.
At the same time, the city is planning to demolish its two oldest buildings, the Empire State Building and the Empire Hotel.
These buildings were built in the 17th and 18th centuries.
In its announcement, the mayor said: We will be able to use the land in the New York Harbor to create thousands of new homes and thousands of jobs.
But that will only happen if we can get this process right, as we have already made great strides with other initiatives, like the revitalization of the Brooklyn Bridge, and the construction of the new park, and we’ll be able to build even more.
We are working to achieve the highest levels of green space, with a focus on urban and green infrastructure, including the development of the park, bike path and pedestrian-friendly transit system, as well as the new residential developments.
New York City, the country’s second largest city, is in its fifth year of the “urban renewal” program.
According to the mayor, these new residential and commercial projects will create new jobs, reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere, and will also improve the quality of life for the residents of the city. De Blasio also said that these developments would provide jobs for tens of thousands of people, while the city could have an additional $2 billion of economic activity over the next decade.
A new urban park would provide a “new way to engage and connect people,” while a greenway would provide an “urban-like experience” for pedestrians and cyclists, according to the announcement.
“It’s the city-building that I love,” said DeBartolo Azzopardi, a member of the local Board of Parks and Recreation.
There will be a festival of the environment in the park and a new park will create an opportunity to celebrate nature and the planet, he added.
Other projects included building a park in the Bronx for the people who want to get outside, creating a park for the people who want a place to walk, and creative recreation programs.
DeBartholo told the New Yorker, “The city is moving forward in a way that’s really exciting and exciting and inclusive and respectful of the waterfront, but it also is trying to do a lot to address our climate crisis, because this is one of the few places where you can really see it.”
The announcement was made in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) request for proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the Ocean Parkway near New York University.
This project was awarded to a company called “Aqua” which plans to build the park for $10 million, according to a press release from the NY City Department of Parks, Recreation and Environmental Protection.
Last year, the EPA approved the plan, and in the press release, the agency noted that “the park will include an open space that will provide a space for walking, cycling, and public art, and open space that will allow for a variety of activities.” According to the NYC Parks and Rec, the project is part of the New Urban Landscaping Program.
After New Yorkers vote on whether to approve the park or not, DeLisi will have the option of reopening the park.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Park Conservancy has been working to protect the boggy shoreline for more than a century.
Currently, about a dozen bogs have been climbed in the Brooklyn area since the 1940s, according the Department of Parks and Recreation.
But the park is currently protected by the New York State Environmental Protection Agency (NYS EPEA).
“Our vision for the Brooklyn Parks and Recreation District is that we will preserve the natural landscape and wildlife of the borough, and that we will use our parks to celebrate the natural world,” NYS EPEA director and Brookly Borough President James McKeown said in a
